As a recovering business broker, I've seen the best and the worst of business preparedness for selling. This site is Business Exits 101. Do not depend on a broker to get that done for you. The broker's goals are to get the listing and its potential commissions foremost. Sometimes that means elevating the asking price (enticing expectations) regardless of the competitions' pricing metrics. In reality ignoring the comparative price / earnings ratio and gross revenue / asking price comps equals more time on the market and a likely asking price reduction down the road. Both can be fatal. You can afford me because I don't charge commissions and our fee menu is based on services the client designs. You might even be able to be your own broker.
